Michael Hecht draws on inner spiritual life and contemplation to inspire his provocative figural explorations. His imagery often references both Western and Eastern mythologies and philosophies but distilled through the unique lens of his temporal existence. As a result, Michael’s images are at once intimate and universal, personal and timeless.

Michael is originally from the Great Plains of the U.S. He earned his BFA in printmaking at he University of South Dakota in 1991. Michael then relocated to Massachusetts where he attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. In 1998 he received his MFA at Massachusetts College of Art. He currently resides in New Bedford, MA with his wife where they share a painting and printmaking studio. Michael teaches part-time at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts.
