Joan Potkay’s art methods include painting, printmaking, and paperworks.In her artwork she is trying to capture the physicality of nature. Using the floor as her easel, Joan pours thin layers of luminous paint onto canvas or paper incorporating calligraphy and mark making into what she calls Land Forms. Born in Hartford, CT, Joan received her degree from Parsons School of Design in NYC. She has lived in New York City and Nantucket Island and presently lives between Santa Fe, NM and New Bedford, MA. In 1986, Joan was chosen for a residency with Helen Frankenthaler at the Santa Fe Art Institute and did a follow up invitational tutorial with Helen again at the SFAI in 1991. Joan has had numerous one person shows and is included in public and corporate collections. Recently her Horizon prints were included in a show at Cork Printmakers at the Quay Gallery in Cork, Ireland and Fyns Grafiske Vaerksted, in Odense, Denmark. Learn more at: www.joanpotkay.com
