Kristine deCharme has always been immersed in creating, making and building — as a busy child exploring the wonderland of my upstate New York surroundings and as an adult, studying, practicing and teaching in Southern California. Apart from her studio practice, deCharme has worked in several fields and disciplines from toy industry sculpture and design to interior and theater constructions. She formed and taught intergenerational arts programing with a focus on the history and science of art-glass. These programs provide hands on projects for audiences throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties to explore and learn and make treasures from glass.

deCharme recently moved her studio to Hatch Street and is happy to call New Bedford her new home.

In life, and in the studio, she processes her most unrelenting questions about humanity, science and the world through those very materials of the world: clay, paint, pigment, metal, glass, and that all-time sublime material, graphite. In keeping with the mindful, hands-on exchange of energy between maker and material, her aim is that the elemental origins of the materials, along with the process-rich studio tradition of art-making, will exchange the energetic comforts and queries of maker and material with the beholder.
